Creating lessons beyond Roald Dahl Day

This week marked Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday – we hope your classroom had fun celebrating! image1
Have your class been inspired to read more Roald Dahl? Why not use this to create a topic for debate? Have them read a book from another author such as David Walliams. This could then become a discussion, answering questions such as:

How has Roald Dahl influenced other authors? Which book did you prefer and why? What were the similarities?

A debating session could then follow. Using the iPad this could be made into a documentary, or a filmed debate. You could even set up a House of Commons style debate, with opposing sides, Walliams versus Dahl.

If you’re looking for inspiration, BBC iPlayer have an awesome authors section on their website with various documentaries – whilst it’s mostly entered on Roald Dahl, other authors are discussed too:  http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03zvsw4

We hope you’ve enjoyed this week’s blog – don’t forget to check our blog next week for our next instalment.
